Beats

New Addition - March 2013 from Jim Saltonstall J80 World Champs Training weekend in Warsash
There was some talk about using the lazy jib sheet as a jib inhaul to gain more height. The class rules don't allow a modification but there's nothing to stop you using the legal equipment in this way.

N.B. The notes below were written early in our time on Jammy Dodger - we were having trouble with the cross winching of jib sheets, especially in high winds. The result was a long feeling delay getting sheeted in and up to speed..

This is the area where we have the most potential for improvement. We are fabulous, well, no worse than most, when we're on the beat, but the tacks were our downfall in many races in the Autumn Championships.

There's no guidance on the North Tuning Guide regarding jobs in the tacks. Becci from J-UK says it's a one man job and this is confirmed by the video below. It's a windy, choppy day, similar conditions to the Solent - probably not quite as choppy. Look 3 mins into the video to see a neat and tidy tack - although he's not entirely happy with it as you can tell from the commentary!
